Level: Foundation II | Duration: 25 minutes | Equipment required: Barre, chair, or counter for balance.
This lesson focuses on the two most difficult leg positions in ballet: Fourth and Fifth Positions. Mastering how to control the legs in Fourth and Fifth position takes a lot of work but perfecting your technique will help you advance to more complex steps. We will also introduce you to the Grand plié. In a Grand plié the legs form a deeper fold, the hips are closer to the ground and in all except Second position the heels come off the floor.
In this lesson you will learn:
- Correct leg and body alignment in Fourth and Fifth leg positions
- How to execute both Grand and Demi pliés from each leg position
- Common mistakes to avoid when executing the leg positions and Pliés
