Watch Trailer

Level: Foundation Elementary | Duration: 25 minutes | Equipment required:  Barre, chair, or counter for balance, Yoga mat (optional).

This lesson focuses on the fundamental ballet steps Sustained Relevé, the Sous-sus and the Soubresaut. These steps, when combined Plié, Rise, and quick Relevé & Sauté form the basics for jumps and pointe work.Relevé, from the French word ‘relever’, is to rise, often with a Plié preceding it. Sous-sus or Relevé with a snatch is a strong spring up into Fifth position on demi-pointe or pointe, where the legs and feet come together to make the appearance of one leg. Soubresaut is a jump generally from Fifth position to Fifth position without changing feet.

In this lesson you will learn:

  • How to use your legs properly to rise and lower in Relevés
