140 – Retiré, Attitude, Développé and Enveloppé Devant

Level: Foundation II | Duration: 34 minutes | Equipment required: Barre, chair, or counter for balance.

This lesson introduces the Retiré position which is critical to the ballet technique. We will also raise the bar…by raising the height of the leg in the Développé and Enveloppé movements to 90 degrees. And finally, we will introduce the Attitude devant position.

In this lesson you will learn:

  • How to correctly engage your legs and foot in these major ballet movements
  • How to bring your foot up to the knee (which is called a Retiré) and then extend it out to a straight leg ( Développé) and how to bring back in ( Enveloppé)
  • How to perform the Attitude position to the front

Instructors: Hannah Mae Cruddas, Callum McGregor, Esther Zignaigo
