Ballet Jörgen brings Sleeping Beauty to Saskatoon!
“What an amazing and mesmerizing performance – a must see production. I couldn’t take my eyes off it. Kudos to all the dancers from the principals to the corps de ballet and the local children.”– Audience Member, Guelph, ON
Toronto – Saskatoon – Ballet Jörgen is bringing its breathtaking production of Sleeping Beauty to TCU Place on March 1.
Ballet Jörgen’s production of Sleeping Beauty takes inspiration from Charles Perrault’s “La Belle au bois dormant” and the Brothers Grimm’s “Little Briar Rose”. Set to Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s magnificent score, this elegant production seamlessly balances many of the beloved excerpts from Marius Petipa’s nineteenth century St. Petersburg production with beautiful original choreography, bringing new life to this storied work for contemporary audiences.
The production was conceived and choreographed by Artistic Director and CEO Bengt Jörgen C.M., who is recognized for his ability to bring classical ballet to life for new generations of dance lovers. Dora Mavor Moore Award winners Camellia Koo (Set and Costumes Design) and Rebecca Picherack (Lighting Design) joined the production team to create a magical world filled with flowers, thorns, birds and enchantment.
The performance will also include 8-12 aspiring young dancers from local dance schools performing as part of the Company’s Local Participant Program. Participants will be selected through an application process and will rehearse with the Company prior to the performances.
“…Congratulations on the sold out performance of Sleeping Beauty. Our little Thorn Hedge had an amazing time, hard work and long rehearsals paid off big time. Thanks to Ballet Jörgen for giving our tiny dancer the opportunity to work and learn from the best. Bravo, well done to all the dancers.”– Local Participant Family Member & Performance Attendee, Guelph, ON
