Jörgen Dance reaches over 75,000 Canadians live – a new record.
Toronto: Jörgen Dance has set a new single season record, reaching 75,547 Canadians in its just concluded 2022/23 season. Dedicated to making high-quality dance more accessible the company delivered programming in 91 Canadian communities and nine provinces.
“There is a broader than usual demographic that attends Ballet Jörgen which reflects a broad impact for the work.” – Key City Theatre, Cranbrook, British Columbia
With professional dance in Canada heavily concentrated in the downtown cores of a few major urban centres – Jörgen Dance – operating as Ballet Jörgen, Jörgen Community Dance and Jörgen Dance Academy – is focused on delivering transformational dance experiences to underserved demographics and communities. This includes small and rural communities, the inner suburbs of urban centres and Canada’s fast-growing suburban cities.
“We had an amazing time with Ballet Jörgen. Staff and Patrons all thought it was brilliant, and people are still talking about it. People with a lot of dance experience thought it was top notch. Children loved it. Very accessible to all! The company was lovely, and I can’t think of anything that would make it better.” – King’s Theatre, Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia
Ballet Jörgen presented three full-length ballets; Anne of Green Gables–The Ballet®, Cinderella and The Nutcracker: A Canadian Tradition; as well as a program of shorter works by Canadian choreographers. Ballet Jörgen also premiered three new works as part of its A Celebration of Black Canadian Choreographers program in May 2023. Jörgen Community Dance delivered interactive performances in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Québec, and Saskatchewan.
“Who would have thought, as we started the season with Anne of Green Gables–The Ballet® in Winnipeg still buffeted by the impact of Covid, that we would be able to reach so many people. I am deeply grateful to all those who joined us this season and of course to all of our donors and funders who made this record setting season possible.”– Bengt Jörgen, C.M., Artistic Director & CEO
