Born in Toronto, Anna Turkington commenced her dance career at a local competition studio, Theatre Dance Academy. By the age of 11, Anna aspired to pursue professional ballet training and joined The Rock School for Dance Education in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on a full scholarship. For four years, Anna trained under the direction of Bo and Stephanie Spassoff, and Natalya Zeiger among other renowned artists. While in Philadelphia, Anna performed the role of Abby (Clara) in The Rock School’s, Nutcracker 1776. Sequentially, Anna danced with Goh Ballet Bayview for three seasons as a scholarship recipient, guided by Chan Hon Goh. Anna has achieved first place four times at the international competition, Youth American Grand Prix (YAGP). Attending YAGP’s New York Finals twice, Anna performed in the International Dance School Festival at the David H. Koch Theatre. Anna achieved first place at the Vienna Grand Prix in 2021, and in her 2023 competition season, she placed first in her classical and contemporary solos in four competitions – receiving special awards and high distinctions at each. To prepare for these performances of Black Swan and Swanhilda, Anna was coached by Sonia Rodriguez from the National Ballet of Canada. Anna journeyed to Vancouver to perform the role of Dew Drop in Goh Ballet’s sold-out production of The Nutcracker, and she also had the opportunity to present the role of Aurora in Sleeping Beauty. Anna has appeared in various productions throughout her career, including Carnival of the Animals, Don Quixote, Lunar New Year performances, Spring Silhouettes, Fête Des Fleurs, and Hallmark’s, A Nutcracker Christmas. Most recently, Anna performed the whimsical role of Queen of Hearts in Goh Ballet’s, Alice in Wonderland, and completed Ballet Jörgen’s Junior Company in summer 2024. Anna is overjoyed to be one of Ballet Jörgen’s Apprentices in the 2024/25 season!
