Born in Edmonton, Alberta, Matteus began dancing at the age of five at Dancefusion Academy of Dance, where he trained in the Cecchetti method, tap, lyrical, and contemporary. In 2022, he joined the Edmonton School of Ballet, continuing his classical training and earning Honours in both his Intermediate and Advanced I Cecchetti examinations.
In 2023, Matteus joined the Ballet Academic Program at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School, where he trained under Leonid Khrapunsky, Failya Bolgarova, Alexander Gamayunov, Tetyana Gazizova, and Stephane Leonard. During his time there, he performed in works including Bournonville’s La Sylphide, Études, Raymonda, and as Frondoso in the Pas de Six from Laurencia. He also choreographed for the First Steps Choreographic Competition, receiving third place in 2023, with his work later selected for inclusion in the school’s upcoming season repertoire. His choreography was also presented at the Encuentro de Escuelas de Danza in Mexico in January of 2024.
Matteus continues to train in his classical and contemporary works, and continues to grow as a dancer, performer, and choreographer.
