In 2017, at the age of fourteen, he won first place in the finals of the Grand Prix of the World Ballet Art Competition (Canada) and was awarded a full scholarship to study at Canada’s National Ballet School (NBS), entering NBS the following year. His performances while in the CLP included the Grand Pas de Deux from Le Corsaire, Lay Dances choreographed by James Kudelka, The Nutcracker, and the principal role in Come In choreographed by Aszure Barton. During his time in the CLP, he also participated in the Paris Opera Ballet School’s, Gala des Écoles de Danse du XXIe siècle, performing the solo from James Kudelka’s Lay Dances and in the Holland Ballet Festival, performing the solo from James Kudelka’s Lay Dances and in WaltzTanGal choreographed by Waverley T Lucas. While Ryusei has appeared in the past on short term contracts with Ballet Jörgen, this year marks his first year as an apprentice with the company and he is enthusiastically looking forward to the upcoming season.
