Level: Foundation | Duration: 22 minutes | Equipment required: Barre, chair, or counter for balance.
This lesson focuses on how to do quick Relevés and small jumps – Sautés – in First and Second position. Quick Relevés and Sautés are key components in developing your jumps as well as strong pointe work.
A Relevé is a raising of the body onto pointe or Demi-pointe. A Sauté is a jump. If the term “Sauté” is added to a step, that means the step will be taken off the floor into an airborne movement.
In this lesson you will learn:
- How to correctly execute quick Relevés and Sautés
- How to use your legs and the floor properly to push up
- Common mistakes to watch out for when performing your quick Relevés and Sautés
