112 – Basic Coordination of Arms & Legs

Level: Foundation | Duration: 28 minutes | Equipment required:  Barre, chair, or counter for balance, Yoga mat (optional).

This lesson focuses on how to improve coordination between your Port de bras (arms) and your leg movements. The lesson focuses on the understanding that our arms are connected to our legs via our spine and that this full-body connection is what we need to feel, see, and use when we dance. Coordination is essential in ballet, and it will make your dancing both smoother and stronger.

In this lesson you will learn:

  • How your spine connects the movements of your arms and legs through ballet’s foundational steps
  • How to coordinate your arms Temps lié, Battement tendu, and Rises
  • How to correctly transfer weight from one leg to another passing through a Plié
