117 – Landing a Jump & Intro to Battement Glissé, Dégagé, Tendu jeté

Level: Foundation I | Duration: 20 minutes | Equipment required: Barre, chair, or counter for balance, Yoga block and a Yoga mat for floor work (optional).

This lesson expands on the use of the Battement tendu by bringing it just off the floor. This step has a lot of different names – Battement glissé, Battement dégagé, Battement jeté, Dégagé en l’air, and finally Battement tendu jeté.

It is a movement where the leg slides straight out away from the body with the toes brushing off the floor before closing back in.

It is a core component of ballet; it will help strengthen your feet and improve your balance. This is key to developing precise and strong allegro and pointe work and helps in learning how to properly land in a jump.

In this lesson you will learn:

  • How to Battement glissé to the side from first
  • How to coordinate the Plié with the Tendu jete
  • the connection of the Dégagé to the mechanics of jumping

Instructors: Hannah Mae Cruddas, Callum McGregor, Ana Zamora
