Level: Foundation I | Duration: 20 minutes | Equipment required: Barre, chair, or counter for balance, and a Yoga mat for floor work (optional).
Our focus today is on how to bring your leg and foot up through the Cou-de-pied position and then extend it out, called a Petit développé. We will also cover how to bring it back in reverse, called an Enveloppé. We have nicknamed this section “Talking with your Feet” as these movements will help you to improve the articulation of your feet.Développé is a movement in which the working foot draws upwards along the supporting leg and extends to a held position in the air. Enveloppé is the action of wrapping around the supporting leg inward from an open position. This is a movement often done in Adagio exercises and can be executed to the front, the side, or the back.
In this lesson you will learn: To ensure you properly execute every consecutive element to produce a strong développé and envelopéThe importance of the feeling of rotation down the legs towards the feetTo keep the upper leg still in a Développé or Enveloppé a la secondThat the upper body needs to be connected and engaged just as much as the legs
