Level: Foundation II | Duration: 25 minutes | Equipment required: Yoga mat for floor work (optional)
This lesson is on the facings of the body, Croisé & Effacé positions. We will also cover the Épaulement which is the use of the head and shoulders, an important artistic element in the ballet technique.
Knowing your facings and how to achieve a proper Croisé and Effacé movement will open the door to more precise lines, and cleaner dancing. It will also mean you know exactly in what direction you are moving. Also, understanding your facings when dancing with others will allow you that magical appearance of moving as one.
In this lesson you will learn:
- How numbers can be used to determine the facing of the body
- How all dance schools break the room into 8 directions, though the numbering systems vary
- How the legs and body are placed in Croisé and Effacé
- The concept of Épaulement
