Level: Foundation I | Duration: 22 minutes | Equipment required: Barre, chair, or counter for balance, and a Yoga mat for floor work (optional).
This lesson focuses on how to properly perform the second half of a Rond de Jambe à Terre – going from the side to the back. This is also called moving from à la seconde to derrière.
Rond de Jambe is a circular movement with one leg and à terre means that we do it on the ground.
Moving your leg in a Rond de jambe to derrière means you’ll be concentrating on connecting to your turnout. The spiral of energy through the legs and body for this circular movement is what makes ballet unique – you will feel longer, lighter and deeply connected all at the same time.
In this lesson you will learn:
- The critical role that the Rond de jambe plays in working turn out to maintain the proper engagement of your muscles with the leg moving from the side into an arabesque
- To ensure the abdominal energy is forward, shoulders square, the neck is free and long while moving the legs
