Level: Foundation II | Duration: 28 minutes | Equipment required: Barre, chair, or counter for balance, and a Yoga mat for floor work (optional).
Our focus today is on the Petit développé, Enveloppé and Fondu steps to the back – to the Derrière direction.
The Développé is a movement in which the working foot draws upwards along the supporting leg and extends to a held position in the air. This movement is often performed in Adagio exercises and can be executed to the front, the side, or the back.
The Enveloppé is the action of wrapping around the supporting leg inward from an open position. It is often thought of as the opposite of Développé, but it can also be used to describe a straight leg wrapping around the supporting leg into a turn for instance.
The Petit Développé is the motion of a Développé but extending out through a Cou-de-pied position, and a Fondu is a plié on one leg instead of two.
In this lesson you will learn:
- How to engage and place the upper body and neck when the leg extends out to the back
- To focus equally on the engagement of the upper body and the legs
- To use an upright and forward movement in the body as leg moves to the back
- To coordinate the arms, head, and legs in these important movements
