130 – Introduction to Glissade

Level: Foundation II | Duration: 24 minutes | Equipment required: Barre, chair, or counter for balance.

This lesson focuses on an important connecting step in ballet – the Glissade. Traditionally, the Glissade is purely a linking step but, as ballet has evolved, different approaches to this step have evolved too. To get the most from this lesson, you will require an understanding of how to use your legs in a landing, and how to push out of a Demi-plié into a quick Relevé

In this lesson you will learn:

  • The underlying principles of executing a strong Glissade and how to use your muscles properly
  • What the differences are in how this step is being taught and how this understanding reinforces the awareness of the underlying principles of the Glissade
  • The Ballet Jörgen approach to the quick Glissade: as a little jump in the air which goes from two feet to two feet

Instructors: Hannah Mae Cruddas, Leandro Prado, Esther Zignaigo
