139 – Arabesque Arms

Level: Foundation I  | Duration: 37 minutes | Equipment required: Barre, chair, or counter for balance.

This lesson focuses on the arabesque arms, a specific part of Port de bras. Understanding the arabesque arm positions and how to correctly perform them is an essential progression in your ballet training. Arabesque arms are designed to be used when one leg is extended to the back. In this lesson you will learn:

  • The names of the arabesque positions and how to correctly perform them
  • How to perform arabesque arms while maintaining correct placement of the body
  • How to achieve a long beautiful arabesque line and make it easier for the legs and core to maintain proper positioning
