This video introduces the fundamentals of the Demi-detourné and Soutenu and also the nuances and variations of these very critical ballet steps. You will learn how to use your legs and upper body properly as you rise into a Soutenu, spring up into a Demi- détourné, and how to turn on two feet. These steps relate to each other and are used every day in ballet class.
In this lesson you will learn:
- A sustained relevé en tournant – the sustained centering of weight over two feet in a half turn
- The demi-detourné with Sous-sous, this one uses the snatch with a half turn
- The Battement Soutenu or Ramassé en tournant, using a plié and an extended leg
- The how to and importance of a Detourné or an Assemblé soutenu en tournant that pushes the hips up and away from the legs in order to keep the legs straight.
