Ballet Technique Fundamentals 2

The five lessons in Ballet Technique Fundamentals 2 build upon the ballet techniques learned in the Fundamentals 1 Unit.

This course focuses on Tendu front, side, back (derrière), and Tendus from fifth position. It also introduces the techniques Grand Battement from first, (front and side) and Quick Relevé and Sauté.

After completing this unit you will know:

  • Battement tendu (also known as Dégagé à terre) from first position to the front and to the side
  • Tendu derrière, which is also known as Tendu to the back or Tendu derrière
  • Battement tendu (also known as Dégagé à terre)
  • Grand battement to the front and side from first position (the Grand battement is an extension of the Battement tendu)
  • doing quick Relevés and small jumps – Sautés – in first and second position

How to get the most from this unit:

  • Take your time with these lessons to ensure that you have fully mastered each technique
  • Watch and dance along with each of the lessons in the unit at least 3 times 
  • Repeat the Fundamentals 2 Unit Practice at least 3-5 times
  • Return often to practice and renew your understanding of these fundamental concepts, even professional dancers can benefit from revisiting these concepts
