A Fond Farewell: Celebrating Jane Wooding

Jane Wooding instructs George Brown Dance student Jerry Burchill.

We say a fond farewell to long-time faculty member Jane Wooding after teaching with Canada’s Ballet Jörgen and George Brown Dance for 19 years. Jane is moving to Halifax, NS this spring where we trust she will make a major contribution to the local dance ecology.

“I remember meeting Jane during my first Nutcracker season with the National Ballet of Canada. She exuded warmth and generosity but also clarity and firmness as she drilled children from the National Ballet School in their parts. This combination of extraordinary generosity with an exacting eye for the demanding standards of classical ballet is what Jane has brought to George Brown Dance for close to two decades. We are deeply grateful for her commitment to her students and to the school as we wish her well in her move to Halifax” – Artistic Director, Bengt Jörgen

Jane Wooding started her training in Ottawa before entering Canada’s National Ballet School. She danced with the National Ballet of Canada before joining the staff of the National Ballet School. She acquired teaching accreditation with the Imperial Society of teachers in Dancing in 1980 and joined the George Brown Dance faculty in 1998. Jane is an accomplished teacher who has also taught ballet on the faculties of York University and the Quinte Ballet School of Canada as well as examining annually for the Cecchetti Society of Canada. We wish Jane the very best and look forward to her continued success as she establishes her new base in our second home of Halifax.

THANK YOU JANE!
