En Route: Closing this season with a successful tour in Newfoundland

CBJ dancer Gustavo Hernandez with young audiences at Ballet101: Introduction to Dance at the Corner Brook Public Library.

Port aux-Basques, NL

It is with great pride that we closed the 2016-2017 touring season last night with Swan Lake in Stephenville, NL. This last leg in Newfoundland was made possible by the support of many dance lovers across the country, and I am honored that we can shine a spotlight on the Newfoundland community with this tour.

Over 1,600 people attended our performances in Corner Brook, Grand-Falls Windsor, Stephenville and St. John’s. 53 young emerging artists joined us on stage. We also offered master classes at local dance schools, and free community programs in public libraries in all four cities, plus Gander and Mount Pearl.

In my years touring across the country, I have come to appreciate the uniqueness in different parts of this vast country, but I am even more inspired by our shared moments when we are immersed in dance. We are cheered on by children who are fascinated by their first encounter with ballet, by young dancers who are eager to perform with us, and by the standing ovation from audiences across the country. Our work requires champions in this large heterogeneous country, and we are blessed to have you share in our vision.

Next season will be the company’s 30th anniversary. I look forward to sharing more details with you, but for now, we are en route back home.

Sincerely,

Bengt Jörgen
